Swift Current's Redneck Betties opened their roller derby season in style with a 395-93 win over the Redcliff Foxy Rollers.

It was the first opportunity for the Betties to display some of the new strategies they've been working on.

Interview with Vic Vega"Everything fell in to place," said Coach Vic Vega. "Even in the last couple of weeks we've been struggling with some stuff, but knowing these girls as soon as they step onto the track they do it. Our passive offence strategy called 'The Sausage' it really worked out really well.

"Our girls' cardio doesn't surprise me but I think it surprised the other team to see how good a shape they're in. To see the new girls out there was what surprised me, they really didn't look new."

Vicious Downfall earned player of the game.

"I was a little shaky in the first half the legs were a bit on the weak side," Downfall said. "Came in the second half feeling strong and ready. I was happy with my performance."

The Betties had the bout in hand and were able to try different players in different positions.

Interview with Vicious Downfall"We had our jammers become blockers out there and had some blockers out jamming," Downfall noted. "We got to shake things up a bit and try a few new things and it was good... it was fun."

It was another big crowd at the Credit Union iPlex for the Betties as they opened their third season. This was only the third ever game action for the Foxy Rollers.

Up next for the Betties is a road trip to Calgary where they will take on a very tough squad. Their next home boout isn't until June against Saskatoon.
