The road to gold has just gotten longer for Jennifer Jones and Team Canada.

They suffered a tough 6-3 loss to Germany in Friday night's 1 vs 2 page playoff game at the Ford World Women's Curling Championships in Swift Current.  The Germans will play for gold on Sunday, and Jones' Winnipeg rink will now have to go through Saturday's semi-final against the winner of the 3 vs 4 game.

The key point of the game was a big miss from Jones, flashing on a tap-in attempt on her final stone in the 9th end, leading to a four-ender for the Germans.  It went downhill from there, with Canada running out of stones in the 10th end.

Jones said post-game, it was a very difficult shot to make, saying it was just bad luck, and hopefully they can play good Saturday night and get back into the final.

Meanwhile, the German win means Andrea Schopp will play for her first World gold medal in 22 years, and first medal of any colour since 1989.  The 45-year-old says it's been a long time coming as it takes 10 years for her to get a European Championship, and 20 years to get a World Championship.  She doesn't know if she'll make it here again in 20 years.

It was another standing room-only crowd at the Credit Union iplex, with an attendance of 2704.  The semi-final game is already sold out.

Sweden and Scotland will square off in the 3 vs 4 game on Saturday at 12:00noon, and Canada will take the winner in the semi-final later at 5:00pm.
