A scrum in the third period in front of the Bronco goal

A promising game didn't come together for the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night.

They were out shooting Saskatoon 9-4 at one point and put up 26 shots through two periods, but couldn't beat either of Blades goaltenders Andrey Makarov or Andrew Morrison in a 3-0 loss last night. Swift Current ended up with 36 shots to 28 for Saskaoon.

Broncos rookie forward Colby Cave had some of their good chances and admits it was frustrating.

"We were playing so good at the start of the period and started dying off," Cave said.

"We had our chances and didn't execute."

Cave was robbed by Makarov after a terrific cross-crease pass by Christian Magnus. The 16-year-old also made a highlight reel worthy move through the Blades defence in the third period before being turned away by Morrison.

"We're just not taking the quality shots that we need to," Cave said.

"Shooting for rebounds instead of in the gut or missing the net."

Lukas Suter and Nick Zajac each had a goal and an assist for the Blades.

Broncos goaltender Austin Smith stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced before Zajac scored into an empty net.

Swift Current is in Regina on Saturday night. The Pats are coming off a dramatic 6-5 shoot out victory over Medicine Hat. The game was held in Shaunavon and local product Dyson Stevenson scored the shoot out winner.
