Tuesday's CHL Import Draft saw the Swift Current Broncos add a pair of 2002-born skaters to their lineup.

With their 3rd overall pick, they selected Slovakian Defenceman Oliver Fatul. And with their 63rd overall pick they chose Belarusian Forward Vladislav Demidovich.

Swift Current Broncos Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Dean Brockman, talked with Swift Current Online after the draft about the selections, the two imports that were released, and the other transaction of the day; moving Wyatt Wilson to the Victoria Royals in exchange for a conditional 2023 fifth-round pick.

Brockman talked about the importance of drafting some guys that were perhaps a bit older. Guys that he hopes can come in and be a steady influence on the younger guys.

Both Fatul and Demidovich fit that criteria well, with the former spending much of the last season in the top professional league in Slovakia, and the latter playing mostly with the Belarus U18 team in his home countries second division professional league.

On the ice, both players push the pace, according to Brockman.

"They're skating is excellent. (They're) guys that compete fairly hard. Those are the types of guys that we need. I think with demo (Demidovich) he's a bigger forward; a guy that's going to drive the net score and some goals. And Oliver is going to be a well-rounded guy. So both guys skate well and certainly they will be huge assets towards the Broncos."

Commenting on the two players released to make room for Fatul and Demidovich, Brockman wished them both well, saying that both made contributions.

Sergei Alkhimov and Matej Toman had both been acquired in trades, from Vancouver and Saskatoon respectively.

"Sergei was a pretty popular guy in Swift but we felt we needed to get a bit younger, and certainly somebody that's a little bit more dynamic. I think we did that. With Matej, he's a well-rounded player; A guy that I think is going to have a better chance of being successful in his native country. I think that's more where he's geared towards. and we thank them for their services and we wish them the best of luck."

The third transaction of the day, seeing Wyatt Wilson traded to the Victoria Royals for a conditional third-round pick in 2023 was, according to Brockman, a matter of opportunity for Wilson, as it would provide a chance to perhaps play with his brother.
