Swift Current Broncos fans have already been introduced to new director of player personnel Gary Aubin, after he was hired onto the job on July 18.

It's a move that pleases head coach and director of player personnel Dean Brockman.

"His knowledge from within the league and having a lot of experience was very attractive, and just that familiarity with him," noted Brockman. "I think Gary has done a great job on the teams that he was at and I think he's the right fit at the right time."

Aubin will carry the director of player personnel title, although he could still carry many duties similar to that of Jamie Porter, the now-former Broncos' director of hockey operations and head of the scouting department.

However, this early into Aubin's tenure with the Broncos, a clearly-defined role and set of duties will continue to be worked towards.

"We're going to define that as we go. I think there's a feeling-out process to where we can fit things in, and where we have to get things done," Brockman said. "It's all hands-on-deck, we've got a lot of options available to us. Once we get our whole scouting staff in place, there will be somebody right underneath Gary that will help with that direction as well."

The thought of a cleaned-out hockey operations and coaching staff may have been a daunting task to undergo replacing all in one off-season, but Brockman admits it's been a fun challenge as it progresses.

"It's been really good. We've got a lot of guys with experience in the league - when you have that, that makes the transition a little bit easier," he said.

Although, he did share that not having too much carryover from the Broncos 2018 Ed Chynoweth Cup-winning staff was unfortunate, albeit understandable.

"Obviously we'd have loved to have some of the guys that have done such a great job for this organization, but it was what was in their best interest to move forward," explained Brockman. "It's just one of those things - any time there's change, things are going to happen. When you have that, you've just got to find other people that can fill those roles."

Aubin and Brockman will now continue progressing through their first off-season working together, prepping for a fairly new-look squad donning the green and blue for 2018-19.
