Golfers had a chance to play with some Swift Current Broncos alumni last weekend as the team held their annual Alumni Golf Classic at the Elmwood Golf and Country Club.

One of the players on hand was Todd Holt, who played five seasons with the Broncos including the 1993 WHL Championship season, and still holds the franchise record for goals and points scored.

"I've been part of the organization for as long as I can remember, and coming back to share stories, listening to what it was like after me, and what it was like before me, it really makes you a part of the organization even more," Holt said. "Being a part of everything that the Broncos have to offer is quite an honour."

He adds he thinks it's important for the team to continue maintaining their connections to its alumni through events like the golf classic.

"Everything we've done after junior and everything we've done before was leading up to this point and after," Holt added. "Having this community as a stepping stone to our bigger and better things, or even some people who didn't do anything but still have a connection here, and I think the people of Swift Current still respect the alumni and the players that come through here."

The Golf Classic featured some of the great players of years past, but also some recent alumni like Daniel Dale, who played two seasons as a forward for the Broncos, but was released prior to last season as the team pared down their overage players.

Dale has since retired from hockey, but hasn't stopped being an athlete.

"Since I left Swift Current, I've gotten into our national bobsled program and I just did my last camp for them," he said. "It's pretty surreal, the training's pretty tough but I'm really enjoying. It's just a chance to continue being an athlete."

Dale said he hopes to wear the Maple Leaf on the bobsled track one day, but adds the sport is still very new to him and he still has a lot to learn.

"My goal is just to make it on the World Cup circuit and maybe four years from now be in Pyeongchang, but who knows?" he added. "It's early on and I definitely got a lot of work to do."

Dale says coming back to Swift Current brings back good memories, but admits he did have a tough time getting around town.

"I remember I was trying to go to the Modern for breakfast, and I took three wrong turns... it was a total mess," Dale said. "It's weird being back and not playing. I expect to go to the rink, but instead I'm having beers at the clubhouse."
