2013 Golf Tournament Logo2334

We're under a month away from the WW Smith Swift Current Broncos Alumni Classic at Elmwood Golf and Country Club.

During Home Hardware's Overtime on The Eagle 94.1 this week, tournament co-chair Jeremy Rondeau talked about their goals for the event.

"The money that we generate from the tournament goes right back into the (Broncos) education fund," Rondeau said. "We put it back in there to try to fund education for some of the guys who have gone on to play university hockey."

Home Hardware's Overtime for June 24th"Last year we raised in around that $10,000 mark and we're hoping to get there again this year. It really depends on the level of sponsorship and golfers."

They had over 30 alumni back in 2012 and are still finalizing this year's list. Rondeau, his wife Kirsten and the rest of the new committee had some goals in mind when they took over the tournament last year.

"Trying to create that sense of community and get these guys involved in the community and giving back," he said. "It's nice to see these guys who haven't been here for so long being welcomed back to the city and playing an active role in promoting the Bronco organization."

Part of that process has been looking for ways to make the event more appealing to sponsors in a summer loaded with different golf events. Part of that includes a special pre-tournament round on Friday for sponsors to play directly with alumni.

"From a sponsorship standpoint kind of blow it out of the water," Rondeau said. "Give these guys an opportunity that they were never otherwise have to golf with a guy like Cody Eakin, Zack Smith... Andy Schneider. Really create some momentum and buzz around this tournament."

The event runs on July 19th and 20th.
