The Swift Current Broncos have called up rookie forward Denis Bosc from the Steinbach Pistons of the MJHL.

Bosc was a late cut after the pre-season and has scored 16 points in 18 games with the Pistons. He also made the CJHL Top Prospects games and scored 2 points over those 2 games.

"We're a little short," said Broncos Coach/GM Mark Lamb. "He's been playing well, he's been on our radar for a while and we were thinking about calling him up a little earlier. He put up some numbers. He went back and did what he had to do to get back here. He's a great skater, he can fill a role and we need some depth."

Brent Benson recently suffered a concussion and that left the Broncos with only 12 healthy forwards. They then lost Daniel Dale to injury for portions of their game in Calgary, although Dale's condition has apparently improved since then.

Bosc joined the team in Edmonton on Monday night.

"It feels good," Bosc said. "Getting sent home after pre-season that's never a good thing to hear, but now getting a second chance. I'm happy to help out the boys any way I can."

The Dufresne, Manitoba product put up 21 points in 52 games for Steinbach as a 16-year-old. He nearly matched that through two months of his 17-year-old season.

"I'm getting a little more ice this year and getting more opportunity," Bosc said. "But I also focused on trying to get a little stronger this year and that has definitely helped me in my play."

Bosc won't likely play big minutes for the Broncos early on and knows he has to keep things simple at the WHL level.

"I just got to make the smart plays," Bosc said. "I've just got to play with aggressiveness, give it my all and show that I want to be here to stay."

The Broncos picked Bosc in the 6th round of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. He'll be with the team as they visit the Oil Kings on Tuesday night.

BRONCOS INK DEBRUSK

Swift Current also made a move with another young player as they signed 16-year-old Jake DeBrusk to a WHL contract.

DeBrusk is among the scoring leaders in Alberta Major Midget AAA with 18 points in 14 games.

"It was an easy decision," said Lamb. "He's not 5'6 anymore he's really growing, he's growing as a player... He's always put up numbers, he comes from a hockey family, he's been around the game a lot (and) he's got a lot of passion for the game."

The Edmonton product is the son of former NHLer Louie DeBrusk. Swift Current picked him in the 7th round of the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft. DeBrusk is the sixth player from that draft they've inked.

"He has had a very good start to his season,” said Broncos Assistant General Manager Jamie Porter. “We were all disappointed when he got hurt during training camp as we couldn't get a true evaluation of his progression, but we have been very impressed with how his game has evolved and we believe he will be strong competition to compete for a spot on our roster next year.”

Lamb noted DeBrusk could even get a chance to play with the Broncos later this season. For now he remains in Midget AAA with the SSAC Athletics.
