It was oh-so-close for the Swift Current Broncos Wednesday night at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex, as they lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Calgary Hitmen.

Calgary struck first just over two minutes into the game, but the Broncos responded with D-Jay Jerome's first goal with Swift Current and one from Jaxan Kaluski on a 5-on-3 to lead 2-1 after the first.

Kaluski scored again in the second period on a 5-on-3 as Swift Current extended their lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes.

However, Hitmen goals with 8:38 and 4:39 left in the third period aided the Hitmen in the comeback.

Overtime was a heavily defensive frame for both sides, with the shootout's lone goal scored by Hitmen forward Josh Prokop.

Isaac Poulter was named second star in the game as he backed the Broncos with a stout 50-save performance, as the Broncos were out-shot 53-22.

Another bright spot for the Broncos, Kaluski's two-goal outing gives him seven strikes in his last six games - his seven goals have come on just 31 shots, equaling an outrageous 22.6 percent.

The Broncos now open a home-and-home with the Blades Friday night in Saskatoon.
