Craig Leverton scored twice as Lethbridge continued their recent scoring surge with a 4-1 win over the Swift Current Bronocs on Saturday. The Hurricanes outshot the Broncos 50-23 and have scored 30 goals over their last 7 games.

Swift Current had seemingly broken out of a scoring slump with a 5-2 win against the Kootenay Ice on Friday, but only mustered a shorthanded goal by Adam Lowry on Saturday. They went 0 for 4 on the power play and are 3 for their last 36.

"(Other teams) watch video in this league everyone does," said Broncos Assistant Coach Darren Evjen. "They put lots of pressure on us and you've got to make plays when that happens."

Swift Current put themselves in penalty trouble early and Eetu Laurikainen kept them in the game with 16 saves in the first period. Hurricanes Captain Graham Hood opened the scoring on the third Lethbridge power play of the game with his first goal of the season on his own rebound.

"We had to kill a ton of penalties again early on," Evjen said. "Guys getting sitting on the bench. That's a hard way to start a hockey game with starts and stops. We've got to pick our spots better, we can't be sitting in the box in the first period."

Lowry's shorthanded goal tied the game briefly in the second period before Craig Leverton's goal restored the Lethbridge lead. The Hurricanes pulled away in the second period with goals by Brady Ramsay and a second from Leverton.

It turned into a scrap filled game in the second half with six different fights. Adam Lowry, Brent Benson, Dillon Heatherington, Dalton Reum, Josh Derko and Daniel Dale all dropped the gloves for Swift Current.

"You want to see compete from your players that's for sure," Evjen said. "Our group... they compete to the end. They want to win so bad, but it's a learning process where we've got to come out and and play that way right from the hop. We've got to be angry from puck drop with some control."

The Broncos earned a split of their weekend road swing, but have still lost six of their last eight games. They'll visit Prince Albert on Tuesday before returning home for games with Seattle and Edmonton next weekend.
