The Swift Current Broncos have seen this story before.

Up 4-3 late the Broncos couldn't close the game out and fell 5-4 to the Regina Pats in overtime.

It was a terrific effort by Swift Current to come back from down 3-0 midway through the game, but another close game slipped away from a team that has lost twenty one-goal games this season and anther six by only two goals.

"It's been one of those seasons," said Broncos assistant coach Jamie Heward. "We battle. We've got guys that care and young guys that are really committed to trying to get better. We battled but those one-goal games... that's hockey. Those are the breaks."

After a listless first period the Pats jumped on the Broncos with three quick goals early in the second.

Swift Current managed to cut into that lead when Artyom Minulin blasted home a power play goal during a major to Adam Berg for checking Max Lajoie in the head.

It seemed like Regina was headed to a comfotable win in the third when the Broncos struck three times in the second half of the period to stun the Pats.

"We established a better forecheck," Heward said. "We created some energy with some speed and started to make some good decisions. Their D are their strong point you don't want to let them handle the puck and we found a way to get on them."

Jamal Watson, Calvin Spencer and Colby Sissons had the goals to overtake Regina. Sissons finished with a goal and two assists.

Riley Woods banked one in off a Swift Current skate late in the third to force overtime and Connor Hobbs ended it only 10 seconds into extra time.

Pats forward Adam Brooks had five assists on the night to extend his lead over Dryden Hunt for the WHL points lead to five points.

Regina moved a point ahead of Moose Jaw for third place in the East Division and a fist round series against Prince Albert. The Pats visit Brandon tomorrow, while the Warriors host Swift Current.

The fourth place team would have to play the Central Division champion Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Taz Burman stopped 18 of 21 Regina shots before being pulled midway through the game. Travis Child made 15 saves in relief.

The overtime loss and Saskatoon's loss in Prince Albert secured 10th spot in the Eastern Conference for Swift Current.
