The Swift Current Broncos entered the trade deadline frenzy not just with a splash, but a move comparable to a cannon ball off a 10-metre platform.

The Broncos are sending two of their top players to the U.S. Division in a six-piece deal.

Captain Ethan Regnier and defenseman Kasper Puutio have been dealt to the Everett Silvertips in exchange for forward Martin Fasko-Rudas, defenseman Parker Hendren, a coveted 2020 first-round selection, and a 2022 second-round selection.

Regnier was the last remaining remnant from the Broncos' 2018 WHL Championship roster, and had been enjoying his best scoring pace to date this year.

The Prince Albert product had nine goals and 21 points in 34 games with the Broncos this season, after setting career-highs of ten goals and 31 points in 68 contests as an 18-year-old last year.

The fan-favourite gritty forward was a former 11th-round selection (230th overall) in the 2015 bantam draft, who willed his way to a leadership role at the WHL level.

Meanwhile, Puutio's career as a Bronco was short-lived, but had been increasingly impressive over the latter stages.

The first-overall import draft pick in 2019 sits tied for second in team scoring with 16 points over 35 games - his 15 assists are the best on the Broncos.

The 2002-born blueliner had been a steady presence in the box score since the Broncos came back from the Christmas break, recording six assists in as many games.

Regnier and Puutio join a Silvertips squad in the midst of another strong season. Everett currently sits in second in the U.S. Division with a 26-9-2-1 record. They're five points back of the Portland Winterhawks.

The Broncos do secure some WHL playoff experience in return, as Fasko-Rudas logged 20 playoff games in the 2018 playoff race that saw his now-former Silvertips fall to his new team in the WHL final.

Adding in ten more games last year, the 2000-born winger has logged nine goals and 17 points in 30 playoff appearances.

The six-foot Slovakian recorded a career-best 15 goals and 31 points in 60 regular-season games last year, and is on a somewhat similar pace this season.

Fasko-Rudas has four goals and eight points, though he's appeared in just in 17 games.

Joining the forward is Hendren, a Regina-born blueliner, and former Midget AAA teammate of now-current teammate Eric Houk.

The 2001-born defenseman brings a sturdy 6-foot, 205-pound frame to the blueline.

Hendren has been a steady presence on the roster this season, appearing in all 38 games for the Silvertips. He has a goal and an assist over that time.

The provincial prospect came to Everett in a trade from the Vancouver Giants in September - a place he also logged a goal and two points in 38 games, though spread over the previous two seasons.

The first-round selection included in the six-piece deal is a big one. Not even a 2020 first-rounder could be included in the massive deal for Joel Hofer last season. Now though, the Broncos secure that first-round selection in a draft that looks to be one of the strongest in recent memory this coming May.

Swift Current now hold 10 picks in the first five rounds of the draft. This first-rounder joins two in the second round, one in the third, four in the fourth, and two more in the fifth.

The WHL trade deadline is 4 p.m. Sask time.
