The Broncos took on the defending Memorial Cup champion Spokane Chiefs last night, losing 3-2 in the shootout.

Both teams traded goals in the first period, Jan Dalecky and Matt Tassone scored for the Broncos while Jared Cowan and Mitch Wahl scored for the Chiefs.

The score remained tied through regulation and overtime, and Drayson Bowman scored the only goal of the shootout period to give Spokane the win and the extra point.

The Broncos outshot the Chiefs 41-38 through 65 minutes of hockey. Travis Yonkman made 35 saves in the loss, while Dustin Tokarski countered with 39 saves.

The Broncos suffer their first shootout loss of the year, and now have a 16-10-0-1 record, good for third in the East Division, three points behind the Saskatoon Blades for the division lead.

Next action for the Broncos won't be until Friday when they visit Calgary. In fact the entire WHL is off until this Wednesday, when the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge is played at the Credit Union iplex.
