It was a similar story for the Swift Current Broncos as they lost their final game of the 2015-16 season.

Zach Sawchenko made 28 saves as the Moose Jaw Warriors knocked off the Broncos 3-1 to clinch 3rd place in the WHL East Division with the win.

"It was a tough game for us being the last game of the season," said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. "I thought there was some fight in a lot of guys, there was some good plays, but we didn't generate enough offence."

"Very similar score to a lot of games this year."

With so many close losses over the course of the season the Broncos gained some valuable experience they need to also learn from.

"You have to hate to lose," Smith said. "We lost so many heartbreakers, games we should have won, could have one... but we didn't. Hopefully our guys remember how they felt after those games and it should be burning inside them to right the ship."

Patrick Maier scored only 1:06 into the game to help the Warriors quickly calm any potential nerves.

They added two more early in the second period from Noah Gregor and Dryden Hunt to build some insurance.

Glenn Gawdin closed the gap for Swift Current later in the second on a very nice play set up by Max Lajoie, Kaden Elder and good battle on the wall by Tyler Adams.

Gawdin and Jamal Watosn both reached 19 goals on the season before falling just short of 20. Tyler Steenbergen, Lane Pederson and 41 goal scorer Jon Martin hit that mark this season for the Broncos.

Travis Child made 22 saves in a losing call in goal.

The Broncos finished the season in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 24-38-7-3.

It's only the fourth time in franchise history they will miss the post-season.

Saturday's loss was also the final game in the WHL careers of overage forwards Jon Martin, Jamal Watson and Scott Feser.

Every other player on the roster is eligible to return for next season.
