With world curling taking over the Credit Union iPlex this weekend, the Swift Current Broncos finish their WHL season on the road.

After being eliminated from the playoff picture the Broncos have two games left visiting Regina tonight and Moose Jaw on Saturday.

With the Warriors only a point up on the Pats, Swift Current could have an impact on the battle for positioning in the East Division.

"We are aware we can play a bit of a spoiler," said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. "I think we want to see with whatever twenty guys we put in effort and execution."

How the players perform with no obvious team goals in front of them could serve as a useful evaluation tool.

"It's a hard thing to play at this time when you know you're done after Saturday night," Smith said. "That's going to show us something. It's going to show us who wants to be here, who wants to play hockey to the last buzzer and that will show us a lot going into the summer and maybe make some decisions for us."

"When we finish the way we finish... we like our team, we talk about it being young and the group that can come back, but you've got to make some changes too if you finish out of the playoffs. This maybe will help us make some decisions."

The players have no intention of leaving anything on the table this weekend either.

"All the guys know that these aren't pointless games," said defenceman Jaydan Gordon. "There's still a lot of the line like guys' futures. Everybody is watching at these types of times when the chips are against you people are judging how you respond to that."

"We owe it to the coaching staff and fans to continue to play hard."

Swift Current could bring back everyone on their roster outside of graduating overage forwards Jon Martin, Scott Feser and Jamal Watson.

They will play their final WHL games this weekend.

One area the organization is excited about is on their young blue line where every player is eligible to return next season with a lot more experience under their belt.

"It was scary experience at the start we were all so young and tossed into these situations we hadn't been in before," Gordon said. "We had some struggles but we had to learn on our feet. Since then I think we've become a really solid group."

"You build relationships with the guys in the dressing room and just the fact that now we've had so much time to develop and continue to get better it will be a really positive thing moving forward."

Gordon himself was named Swift Current's most improved player this season. As a rookie he didn't see the ice much, but this season he has earned the trust of the coaching staff and found himself playing a regular shift every night.

"It was really special," he said. "I didn't think of myself getting an award. The young team we had there were so many guys who could have had that award. I'm honoured."
