The Swift Current Broncos will ring in the new year with a special afternoon tilt against the Medicine Hat Tigers at home.

The Broncos are looking to snap a five-game losing skid, and are coming off a 4-1 loss in Regina on Friday. It will be the third meeting with the Tigers this season, with the Broncos winning one of the two matchups so far.

Today's game will recognize four former Broncos, Chris Mantyka, Scott Kruger, Trent Kresse and Brent Ruff, who died in a bus crash on the way to a game in Regina 25 years ago Friday.

Former Bronco Tim Tisdale represented the 1986-87 Broncos in a pre-game ceremony honouring the four players before Friday's game at the Brandt Centre. Tisdale was a rookie on that team, and would later turn that tragedy into triumph when he scored the Memorial Cup clinching goal for the Broncos in 1989. He said on friday that his four former teammates were on their minds when they celebrated that victory: "I remember talking about it on the way home with a few of the guys... and we really felt it was a tribute to those guys, it was an honour in their memory that we were able to win a championship so soon after."

Today's game is also minor hockey day, and all kids wearing their minor hockey sweaters will get to see the game for free.

Face-off is at 4:00pm from the Credit Union iplex, and you can hear the action on the Eagle 94.1 starting at 3:30.
