Three points away from clinching a playoff spot, the Swift Current Broncos will look to shrink that number down to one when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings Tuesday night at the Credit Union iPlex.

The game will also serve as an opportunity to further separate themselves from the Wheat Kings, who enter the contest trailing Swift Current by seven points for third place in the East Division, which would most likely be the difference in playing Moose Jaw or Medicine Hat in the first round of playoffs.

As Broncos Associate Coach Ryan Smith notes though, Brandon always presents a tough test for Swift Current.

"It's a team that we have had some close games, lots of shoot-outs with them," he said.

"They are chasing us and we are trying to spread ourselves a bit and crawl closer to Moose Jaw."

In six meetings this season between the two teams, three of them have went to a shoot-out, which Swift Current will look to avoid having dropped all three of those contests.

However, of the three other games that were decided in regulation, the Broncos came out on top twice.

One of those two regulation wins was there most recent meeting, when Broncos goalie Jordan Papirny faced his former team for the first time since being dealt from Brandon at the trade deadline.

Papirny went on to make 28 of 29 saves in the contest, en route to being named the third star of the game.

For Swift Current, they enter Tuesday night's match-up with Brandon coming off of their first victory of the season over the Regina Pats Sunday afternoon.

Playing their third game in three days and with a depleted bench, the Broncos recovered from a 4-2 third period deficit to come away with a 5-4 OT victory.

"It was really gritty," Smith said of Sunday's win in Regina.

"With the guys missing from the lineup opportunity knocks for other guys to get some extra ice. After a couple tough ones to start the weekend we knew we were going to be up against it. We asked our guys just to work hard, play hard and be hard to play against. What a way to end the weekend. Outstanding efforts by pretty much everyone in blue."

The Wheat Kings have had a tough time away from Westman Place all season, playing to just an 8-18-3-3 record on the road, however, they have had success in Swift Current with two of their eight road wins taking place at the Credit Union iPlex.

The Broncos meanwhile will enter the contest with a home record of 18-9-3-2.

Puck drop between Swift Current and Brandon is scheduled for 7:05pm from the Credit Union iPlex.
