Excitement is in the air in southwest Saskatchewan ahead of the Swift Current Broncos' 20th game of the 2018 WHL Playoffs.

The Broncos pushed the Lethbridge Hurricanes to the brink of elimination in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday and now look to do something that hasn't been done since well before these players were born.

A Game 6 win would spell a Broncos' berth in the WHL Championship series for the first time since the 1992-93 season, when they hoisted the Ed Chynoweth Cup as league champions.

Holding a 3-2 series lead, Swift Current travels to southern Alberta for Game 6 in an arena that was all but kind to them in Games 3 and 4 of the series.

Two lop-sided losses of 5-1 could certainly be attributed, at least partially, to the momentum the Hurricanes have built on home ice at the Enmax Centre. Lethbridge has gone a perfect 8-0 at the 7100-capacity arena through two-plus series in the 2018 WHL playoffs.

"We feel confident at home. Our fans have just been unbelievable - they help us get the record that we have," said Hurricanes goalie Logan Flodell, noting their ninth contest will be their toughest yet.

"They (the Broncos) are going to push. They know that they want to beat us in our own barn, that would be special for them. But, we've got to make it so they can't, and we're going to try to go back there on Tuesday."

Two notable Broncos will be making their ECF road debuts tonight, after sitting out the previous two games in Lethbridge with unknown ailments.

Captain Glenn Gawdin and Artyom Minulin made a return to the lineup in Game 5 at home after their respective two and three-game absences.

"You've got an elite puck moving defenceman that gets us out of trouble with good first passes," said Manny Viveiros, Broncos Head Coach/Director of Player Personnel. "And Glenn Gawdin - I thought he was the MVP (of the season). He's everything for our hockey club. He's our captain for many reasons."

The pair each notched an assist in their first game back on the Broncos bench, and along with duplicating the team's Game 5 gameplan, could be the addition that breaks the Hurricanes' home streak.

"Play like we did today. Establish a physical presence, get in front of them - they're a fast team, a quick team that's got some skill," said forward Giorgio Estephan. "We've got to make sure that we don't take any penalties because their powerplay has been burning us. Just kind of play like we did tonight. I thought we were pretty strong in a lot of aspects."

"It's been a good ride for sure so far, and we definitely have to get ready for this big game going into Lethbridge," Estephan added.
