When you're in the midst of a losing streak it seems like everything that could go wrong will go wrong with the worst possible timing.

Late in a 1-1 game with Prince Albert on Saturday night the Swift Current Broncos were whistled for an Artyum Minulin tripping penalty and Austin Glover quickly took advantage to lift his Raiders to a 2-1 win.

It was the eight straight loss for the Broncos and six of the games have been decided by a single goal.

"It's a heartbreaker," said Broncos assistant coach Jamie Heward. "Easily was our best effort in this streak we're going through right now. Guys played hard, guys played fast and guys played tough. At the end of the day we didn't catch a break and had a lot of chances where we didn't get goals out of it."

"It all comes down to a bellow average penalty call with 1:39 left that's not even acceptable at any level. It's a heartbreaking loss for our kids."

Travis Child was very strong for the Broncos in a losing cause with 27 saves including several big ones in the first period.

"He battled hard," Heward said. "He certainly did step up tonight and give us an opportunity to win against the best team in the East. That says a lot about how he's approached the game the last little while he's done a lot of extra things. It's nice to see it's paid off for him but it's disheartening because he didn't get the win."

Child has made big strides this season moving his save percentage up to the 0.920 mark and finding a way to put together sixty minute efforts in goal.

"I think the biggest thing is experience and confidence," Child said. "I'm confident in my abilities to play in this league."

"You've just got to keep working and getting better to earn your starts and be able to play more and more."

Jake DeBrusk scored Swift Current's lone goal as he deflected in a Minulin point shot with 1.6 seconds to play in the first period for the Innovation Credit Union Teddy Bear Toss goal. Stuffed animals, toques and mittens were collected and will go towards the Salvation Army for the holiday season.

The Broncos carried a 1-0 into the third period before Simon Stransky tied it up on a broken play with a nifty spin move and well-placed shot. It appeared the game was then headed for overtime before the late Minulin penalty and Glover goal.

Swift Current has had a lead in five of the eight games they've lost on this recent slide.

They'll host the defending Eastern Conference champion Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday before heading to Edmonton and Calgary on the weekend.
