The Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors open the WHL pre-season tonight with their annual rookie game at Mosaic Place in the Friendly City.

The Broncos have cut down to 32 players with twelve rookies left on the roster that are eligible to make the team this year. Those rookies include six forwards, three defencemen and three goaltenders.

Full interview with Mark Lamb

"The players that we're talking about and that are pushing are playing really good, and I know the veterans, they got to be a little weary about it," said Broncos Head Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb. "The players that we thought were going to really push for jobs, that's what they've done. A lot of the guys that we have fighting for jobs are doing all of the little things that we talked about over camp, and it's getting really tough."

Tanner LeSann is the only rookie left in camp who wasn't picked in the WHL bantam draft, and Lamb says he had an excellent camp to turn heads and get this opportunity. The forward had a three point effort in the Broncos' Black vs. White game on Sunday.

Lamb adds the competition only gets tougher as they start playing true opponents: "We have some high-character kids here that really want to play. The bar is very high and they know the bar is very high and it will work itself out."

Puck drop for the rookie game is 7:00pm tonight.
