Ahead of this morning's CHL import draft, the Swift Current Broncos announced yesterday that they had released 2001-born forwards Sergei Alkhimov and Matej Toman.

With the Broncos having two selections in today's draft, and CHL rules stipulating that a team can only dress and play two import players per season, both Alkhimov and Toman found themselves in the crosshairs.

Alkhimov joined the Broncos in November in a trade with the Vancouver Giants that saw Joona Kiviniemi sent to the west coast that also returned a sixth-round selection in the Bantam Draft.  He scored seven goals and nine assists in 46 games.

Toman was acquired at the trade deadline from Saskatoon and scored two goals and three assists in 23 games.

The two-round CHL import draft gets underway at 9 a.m. with the Broncos holding the first pick in the WHL and the third pick overall behind the North Bay Battalion of the OHL and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL.

Swift Current Online will have a complete rundown of the CHL Import Draft in the coming days.
