Foulk Griffin
American defenceman Griffin Foulk is expected to make his Swift Current Broncos debut tonight against the Regina Pats

The Swift Current Broncos will return from the WHL's Christmas Break with some added experience on their blue line, after making a trade with the Lethbridge Hurricanes Saturday morning.

The Broncos acquired 19-year-old defenceman Griffin Foulk in exchange for a conditional 8th-round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2016. The 6'1", 197 lbs Colorado product has six goals and 23 points in 153 career WHL games with Everett, Seattle and Lethbridge.

Foulk will join a Broncos backend that is still without Dillon Heatherington, who is at the World Junior Hockey Championship, and Jordan Harris, who is week to week with an upper body injury.

"With Dillon Heatherington making Canada's World Junior Team, the addition of a veteran defenseman is needed” Broncos coach and General Manager Mark Lamb said in a statement.

The Broncos are expecting to have Foulk in the lineup as they start the second half of the WHL season against the Regina Pats tonight at the Credit Union iplex.

Meanwhile, one player that won't return from Christmas break with them is 16-year-old defenceman Colby Sissons, who was called up for two games before the break. Sissons is now back with his Edmonton-based midget team for the Mac's Midget Tournament in Calgary this week.

"Obviously it was good to get in a game before the end of the year," he said. "Getting more minutes in midget is a better opportunity, I'll say, but getting into a game felt good... I've started to use my body a bit more, I put on a few pounds since camp and got a harder shot, so that's helped me jump up a level."

Sissons, along with fellow Broncos prospects Hunter Lorenson and Jacob Thomas, are with the SSAC Athletics at the Mac's tournament, where they won their opener 3-0 over Tisdale.

Swift Current starts the second half with a 17-14-0-4 record and sit third in the WHL's East Division, six points behind the second-place Pats. The Broncos have three wins and one shootout loss in their four games against Regina so far this season.

Tonight's game is the annual Crescent Point Energy Minor Hockey Night, and all kids will get into the game for free if they are wearing their minor hockey team jersey.

You can hear tonight's game on The Eagle 94.1 FM starting with our pre-game show at 6:30pm. Face-off is at 7:05pm from the Credit Union iplex.
