The first major domino of the WHL trade deadline season has fallen in Swift Current.

The Broncos dealt Boston Bruins NHL draft pick Jake DeBrusk to the Memorial Cup host Red Deer Rebels for 18-year-old forward Lane Pederson, Red Deer's 2017 1rst round WHL bantam draft pick and their 2016 3rd round pick.

Pederson has 21 points in 35 games with Red Deer so far this season.

That includes 8 poitns in his last 6 games and 13 in his last 14.

The Saskatoon product was originally Seattle's 5th round pick in the 2012 bantam draft. He has 41 points in 100 WHL games.

Over two years of Midget AAA with the Saskatoon Blazers the 6'1, 189lbs center put up 76 points in 75 games.

DeBrusk has 26 points in 24 games this season and has been dealing with the impact of a lower body injury he sustained after blocking a Joe Hicketts shot over a month ago.

He scored 42 goals last season and was picked 14th overall in the NHL draft.

The son of former NHLer Louie DeBrusk was a 7th round pick by the Broncos in the 2011 bantam draft.

Swift Current now owns Red Deer's first round picks in both 2016 (care of the Brycen Martin deal to Saskatoon) and the 2017 bantam drafts.

They also made a smaller deal today sending import forward Andreas Schumacher to Seattle.

The Broncos host Moose Jaw this afternoon at 4pm. You can hear our broadcast at 3:30pm on The Eagle 94.1 FM.
