It's the first road trip of the season for the Swift Current Broncos.

They're headed to Edmonton to participate in the annual Oil Kings Pre-Season Invitational.

The Broncos will face off against Edmonton tonight and Calgary tomorrow afternoon.

The Broncos have 20 forwards, 9 defenceman and 3 goalies listed on their roster as they head to Edmonton. That number will drop down to 18 forwards when 15-year-olds Tyler Steenbergen and Cole Johnson return home on Sunday.

For the rest of the hopefuls, now is the time to show where they fit.

"We need people from underneath to push everybody here," said Broncos Coach/GM Mark Lamb. "What they really need to do is make the decisions hard."

"We talk about it all the time, you don't want to let a period leave you behind or even a game because if you do that someone is going to go by you."

Lamb enjoys the format of the six team exhibition invitational.

"You can see a lot of other teams too," Lamb said. "You get a road trip in there and it's a long road trip so you spend a lot of time with each other."

"For the young guys they really get a feel for what the Western Hockey League is all about."

The Broncos return home to host Saskatoon in pre-season action on Sunday.
