The Swift Current Broncos announced the winners of their yearly 15 team awards Friday morning, days after their regular season was cancelled five games short of completion due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Goalie Isaac Poulter unsurprisingly was named the Team MVP after a busy and impressive season in the crease for the Broncos.

In 47 appearances this season, he 2001-born backstop faced 118 more shots than any other goalie in the WHL, making a league-high 1609 saves as well.

He posted a 9-32-2-2 record, a 4.06 goals-against-average, and .896 save-percentage over his first full campaign as the starter.

Poulter also notably earned the ‘Coaches Award’ and ‘Humanitarian of the Year’.

Other top honours among the 15 awards include:

Rookie of the Year – Hendrik de Klerk

Most Improved – Sam McGinley

One of two 2002-born Broncos blueliners, McGinley finished the campaign with 12 points (3 G, 9 A) in 39 games with the team, coming over from Regina in an early-November trade.

McGinley was held off the stat sheet in his first 10 games. Once he recorded his first point – an assist in a mid-December road game against Red Deer, it was an impressive 0.41 points-per-game average over the final 29 games of the season.

Top Scorer – D-Jay Jerome

Jerome came over to the Broncos shortly before the trade deadline, getting scooped up off waivers from the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The 20-year-old recorded 46 total points in 66 games in his final WHL season. He posted 28 (14 G, 14 A) of those in 40 games with the Canes, adding the remaining four goals and 18 points in 26 games as a Bronco.

His 0.69 point-per-game average in Swift Current trailed only captain and fellow 20-year-old Jaxan Kaluski (0.71), who posted 30 points (19 G, 11 A) in 42 games – the most of anyone to wear a Broncos’ jersey this season.
