Broncos forward Nathan Burns returned to Saskatoon on Saturday for the first time since being traded by the Blades to Swift Current.

It brought back memories for Burns.

"There's a lot of emotion in (the Credit Union Center)," he said. "Being part of the Memorial Cup it was a big part of the city."

"Being traded (to Saskatoon) it was pretty emotional. My brother played here before I did. It was just a pleasure to be a part of."

Saskatoon sent Burns to Swift Current in a pre-deadline deal that netted them veteran Connor Sanvido, prospect Wyatt Sloboshan and a 2nd round WHL Bantam Draft pick.

Burns has 13 points in 10 games with his new team and feels like things are coming together with his teammates.

"New players are starting to settle in," he said. "I think chemistry is starting to build. Those are positives going forward."

While the Broncos lost 3-2 in overtime to Saskatoon on Saturday, they earned 6 of a possible 8 points over the week. Twice Swift Current came from down late to score goals with their net empty and forced overtime.

"Scoring goals in the last couple minutes of a game really shows a lot of character in the team," Burns said. "Just the idea that we never quit."

Things are still very tight in the WHL East Division. The Broncos lead Brandon by a single point and Regina by three. They don't play again until Friday at home against Medicine Hat and Saturday when they host Prince George with the Grey Cup in the house.

Defenceman Stephen Shmoorkoff's status is questionable after he left Saturday's game injured. Jordan Harris could be ready to step in for him by the weekend.
