Canada earned first in their group and a bye to the semi-finals at the World Junior Hockey Championships with a 4-1 victory over the host Russians this morning.

Dougie Hamilton, Mark Scheifle, Jonathon Drouin and Jonathon Huberdeau scored for Canada, while Malcolm Subban made 21 saves.

Canada awaits the winner of the quarterfinal between the Cezch Republic and the USA, while Russia takes on Switzerland in the other quarterfinal where the winner faces Sweden in the second semifinal.

Meanhwile, there will be no medal for Broncos goalie Eetu Laurikainen and Team Finland, who lost 7-4 to Sweden to wind up fourth in their group, and they will move to the relegation round.
