NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs


Jarret Stoll scored in overtime as the Los Angeles Kings beat the President's Trophy winning Vancouver Canucks out of the playoffs.

Stoll's overtime winner 4:27 into the extra frame gave the Kings a 2-1 win and a 3-1 series victory.

Jonathan Quick did his part in net with 27 saves for L.A. while Cory Schneider had 35 saves in the loss for  Vancouver

The Kings will play St. Louis in the next round.

Claude Giroux scored 32 seconds into the game, and the Philadelphia Flyers won 5-1 over Pittsburgh, winning their Eastern Conference opening-round series in six games. 

Ilya Bryzgalov had 30 saves in the win.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins forced a seventh game in their Eastern Conference series. 

Tim Thomas had 36 saves, and Tyler Seguin got off the schneid scoring 3:17 into overtime in the Bruins' 4-3 win over Washington. 

Boston will host game seven on Wednesday.

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson took part in an optional skate yersterday and looked ready to return for Monday's Game 6 against the New York Rangers. 

He's been out of the lineup since taking an elbow to the face from Carl Hagelin in Game 2. 

The Senators lead the series 3-2.
