In international hockey, Jack Johnson scored on the powerplay in overtime as the USA beat Canada 5-4 in round-robin play at the World Hockey Championships. It's the first time the Americans have beaten Canada at the tournament since 2001. Canada takes on France in their next game Monday morning.
The WHL's Ed Chynoweth Cup final resumes tonight with game three in Portland (8:00pm, Shaw TV), after the Winterhawks evened up the series with the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 5-1 win on Friday.
At the RBC Cup, the host Humboldt Broncos opened the tournament with a big 4-1 win over the Woodstock Slammers, while the BCHL champion Penticton Vees dropped a 2-1 decision to the Soo Thunderbirds. Two games today have the Portage Terriers taking on the Thunderbirds, and Penticton battles Humboldt.
