Two of the leaders on the Swift Current Broncos will have a chance to help Team WHL as they take on Russia in the final two games of the Subway Super Series.

The series is tied 2-2 after Russia lost both in the QMJHL and swept the OHL. They will meet Team WHL on Wednesday in Red Deer and Thursday in Lethbridge.

Broncos captain Colby Cave and alternate captain Dillon Heatherington are both on the roster for Team WHL. It will be a different experience for them taking on a skilled club of European style players. Heatherington got a taste of that at U18s in the spring.

"They've got lots of speed and lots of skill as most Europeans do," he said. "Just make sure to keep guys to the outside and play it like a WHL game."

Heatherington has 23 points and is a team high +15 in 29 games for the Broncos so far this season. He was a second round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the spring.

"Extremely honoured to even be invited here," he said. "It's just another step in the process... essentially it's the day to day work and the process of developing into a better player. All that other stuff will come, but I've really just focused on getting better each day."

Cave has 30 points in 29 games so far this season.

"Coming into the season that was one of my goals," he said. "Just to be recognized by the league it's a great honour and I just want to represent our league and our organization when we get there."

The North Battleford native plays both centre and left wing for Swift Current. He went undrafted in the NHL this spring, but suited up for the San Jose Sharks at the NHL Young Stars pre-season tournament.

"I had the disappointment of the draft last summer," Cave said. "I kind of shook it off and told myself this could be something that could make or break my career. I came in this year and really wanted to do that. It's a tryout for World Juniors and I've just got to show what I can do."

Broncos Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb is pleased to see his captain get the nod.

"It's good for people that are watching and picking these teams that they give credit where credit is due," said Broncos Coach and GM Mark Lamb. "(Cave) does everything for us and I think he's one of the best two way players in the league."

You can watch both games live on Rogers Sportsnet. Wednesday's game will be on Sportsnet West, while Thursday's game will air on Sportsnet One.

The Broncos host Calgary on Friday and Red Deer on Saturday.
