This week's Swift Current Broncos training camp will be the last one for players heading into their 20-year-old seasons, including last years's captain Colby Cave.

"It's bittersweet, obviously," the forward said. "I talked with a couple of other 20-year-old guys and some of the older guys, it feels weird just coming back next year that you don't have to do this again, but I'm just looking forward to the rest of camp and getting ready for the season... It's going to be a tough camp, we got a lot of guys coming back for not a lot of spots. It's going to be a competitive camp and I'm looking forward to it."

Cave, who turns 20 in December, adds that the future of the team looks bright with a lot of young talent coming in.

"Some of these guys are 15 and 16 years old and they're putting crazy numbers up in the fitness testing," he said. "It's really good to see that the guys are dedicated, and that's what this organization is all about."

Meanwhile, Cave will be off to Arizona next month to try out for the Coyotes at their main camp, after he was invited to the team's summer prospect camp following the NHL draft in June.

"It was a great experience," he said. "They phoned me right after the draft and said there was a lot of interest there. It is a great organization and I can't be thankful enough for them to give me the opportunity and I'm looking forward to going back in the fall and seeing what happens."

He says he's going there hoping to make the jump to pro hockey, but knows the Broncos will welcome him back if it doesn't work out.

"You obviously always want to make the next step," cave said. "It's nice not having to worry about where you're going if things don't work out down there. If I end up coming back to Swift Current, it would be great for my development either way. We're going to have a good team here in Swift, but I'm going to go down there with the mindset to impress some people."

Training camp continues today with scrimmages at 4:00pm and 6:00pm. The first pre-season game will be the Rookie game in Moose Jaw on Tuesday.
