One day remains for the Swift Current Broncos, as they look to kick off their 2018 Memorial Cup experience tomorrow afternoon.

When the puck drops Saturday in Regina it will have been six days since the last game day, when the Broncos hoisted the Ed Chynoweth Cup this past Sunday.

The last Saskatchewan team to do that was the 1993 Swift Current Broncos. Current Broncos Chairman of the Board Trent McCleary was a player on that team, and says the days between a WHL Championship and the start of the Memorial Cup can sort of run together.

"Kind of almost a blur - I'm sure that it is for the 2018 team as well," McCleary said. "You win it at home, you have the cup, a sense of accomplishment, and then just that little bit of a dip just because you can relax. But, now you have to try and get back up. Hopefully it's a little bit better of a result this year than in '93."

The 1993 Broncos lost in a tie-breaker game to Laval, falling short of the semi-finals.

McCleary says a keyword in the tournament is urgency.

"You can't take a shift off, every game is important because you don't want to have to play a tie-break or semi-final," McCleary explained. "You want to get those wins as quick as you can. It's a real sense of urgency. Knowing that you're good, but you're also playing against good teams that you might not now as good. You have to win these games."

The Broncos and Acadie-Bathurst Titan face off at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the Brandt Centre in Regina.

Full audio from the Chairman of the Board and member of the 1993 Broncos can be heard below. McCleary speaks on parallels between the '93 and '18 teams, the feeling of seeing the Broncos hoist the Ed Chynoweth Cup once again, and facing a fellow small-market team in game 1.
