A huge victory for Elmwood Golf and Country Club Head Professional Jeff Chambers.

He won his first Saskatchewan Zone PGA Championship by 6 strokes at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course.

"I can't believe how good it feels," Chambers said. "I just felt it was my day this morning. I woke up and it just felt right. I thought this belongs to me I've worked hard for this. I thought it would be great but I'll tell you what I was so nervous I knew something was up because I didn't feel normal this morning."

Jeff Chambers Interview"It just felt good to get out there and make some early birdies and then go on cruise control the rest of the way."

Chambers had finished 2nd at the event before, but this was his first win.

After rounds of 70 and 68 he was the only golfer in the tournament to shoot under par.

"It's a very tricky golf course," Chambers added. "That's obviously why the scores were so high this year. It's probably one of the highest scoring events that we've ever had."

"It just seemed that it suited my eye. I never did have to hit a provisional out there just hit good solid shots and got up and down pretty much every time I missed the green."

He tried to describe why it seemed to suit his game.

"It's a ball striker's course. If you miss off the tee you're in deep bush and it's 2 strokes automatic. I never did hit the bush either day. I got off the tee really well and then the greens were probably the fastest and trickiest that we play in Saskatchewan. I just made sure that I hits my shot bellow the hole."

By winning Chambers qualifies for the Florida National Championship that happens every November. He also qualifies for the CPGA Saskatchewan Open.

He has been happy with his game despite being so busy with his junior coaching duties and other responsibilities at Elmwood.

"I've scored really well this year," Chambers said. "It's been one of my busiest years at the club and I've only gotten to play once a week. It's not like I really knew what was coming but I felt good when I did hit the ball."

Elmwood assistant professional Brennan Rumancik finished tied for third in tournament with Jeff Gross of the Chinook Golf Course and two others.

"It felt really good to have him there and for both of us to play so well and represent Elmwood that way," Chambers said.

It's been a big month for Chambers who was also named coach for Team Saskatchewan at the Canada Summer Games in Quebec.
