Indians Awards 7 Chartrand o
Joe Carnahan and Cody Chartrand at last year's Indians awards

The Swift Current Indians will open their season tonight in Saskatoon against the Yellow Jackets.

Cody Chartrand will be getting the opening day start for the Indians after being selected as their most valuable pitcher last year coming out of the bullpen.

Interview with Cody Chartrand"It's something special. I came in last year not really knowing my role and it's an honour to get the opening day start," said Chartrand. "You just got to go out there and do what you do best and you can't build it up to much. You just got to go out there and do your job and see how it goes."

Chartrand added he is comfortable starting.

"It was good for me to get my feet wet against some higher level ball players and it carried over into college and I put together a good season so looking forward to the summer. I'm a starter back in school so should fit right in here."

Chartrand went 2-3 with a 4.06 earned run average in 7 games and 6 starts with the Vancouver Island Baseball Academy this spring.

The game tonight can be heard on the Eagle 94.1 FM with pre-game starting at 6:50pm.

The Indians are in Moose Jaw tomorrow before playing their home opener this Sunday against Edmonton.
