Football season continues for our teams in the southwest. In 6 man action, Gull Lake Lions’ coach Neal Boutin sends the following report:

It was a beautiful day for football as the Gull Lake Lions hosted the Elrose Eagles in 1A 6-Man action on Thursday. With a good crowd on hand the 2-1 Lions defeated the improving 0-3 Eagles by a score of 59-22. 2nd year running back Jake Anderson led the Lions with 3 TDs. Next action for Gull Lake is Thursday, October 6, when they host the 2-0 Central Butte Bulldogs.

In 9 man action on Sept. 26, Maple Creek lost to the host Assiniboia Rebels 44-31.

The football schedule will conclude after Thanksgiving for all categories. Remaining games include:

6 man:
October 13 – Davidson @ Gull Lake

9 man:
October 14 – Shaunavon @ Fort Qu’Appelle
Assiniboia @ Maple CreeK

12 man:
Moose Jaw Peacock @ Swift Current Colts.

Football playoffs will start on October 18 for 12 man football (5th vs 4th) while 6 and 9 man playoffs will go Saturday, October 22.

The Swift Current Ardens’ soccer team continued their unbeaten streak. On Sept. 27, the Ardens travelled to Moose Jaw and defeated Central 10-0. If the Ardens finish in first place in the league, they will get a bye to the semi finals. Semi finals will go on Oct. 13.

Both the Swift Current Ardens and Colts soccer teams will start on the road to the provincial championships on October 21/22 when they travel to regional soccer playoffs. Swift Current, Weyburn and Estevan will compete in both boys and girls categories with the top 2 advancing to provincials on Oct. 28/29.

Our senior girls and boys volleyball leagues are half done their schedules. The top 5 in the standings are as follows:

Girls:
1st – Fox Valley – 21 pts
2nd – Shaunavon – 18 pts
3rd – Frontier – 16 pts
4th – Consul – 15 pts
5th – Herbert – 12 pts

Boys:
1st – Shaunavon – 19 pts
2nd – Consul – 16 pts
3rd – Vanguard – 16 pts
4th - Hazlet – 13 pts.
5th – Swift Current Jr Colts – 8 pts.

The top 4 teams will qualify for the finals. Host sites for girls’ action on Oct. 18 includes Herbert, Ponteix and Eastend while the boys’ hosts on Oct. 19 include Hazlet and Shaunavon.

Look for cross country results in next week’s report. All our cross country runners gathered in Consul on Oct. 5. Runners from grades 4-12 competed. Runners in the midget, juniors and seniors category (grades 9-12) competed for the right to advance to Provincial cross country meet in Middle Lake on Oct. 15.
