It was a busy week of volleyball for many of our teams. Our junior season has drawn to a close and our senior teams are starting in provincial playoffs.

On Tuesday, November 1, Fox Valley hosted our senior girls’ league finals. The first match saw #1 Fox Valley defeat #4 Herbert 25-16, 25-14. This was followed by #2 Frontier defeating #3 Shaunavon 12-25, 25-14, 25-14. The consolation final saw Shaunavon beat Herbert 25-19, 22-25, 25-15. The Fox Valley Legends then triumphed over Frontier 25-13, 25-19 to capture the league title. Congrats to the Legends and their coach Quentin Fauth!

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, the top 4 sr. boys’ league teams met at Pambrun to decide the title. #1 Vanguard were victors over #4 Frontier 25-8 and 25-22. The #2/#3 match saw Consul emerge as winners over Shaunavon 25-20 and 26-24. The consolation final saw Shaunavon beat Frontier 25-22, 25-20. The final saw Consul Cougars upset Vanguard 25-16, 25-18. Congrats to the Cougars and their coaches Jodi Jakobar and Wyatt Geiger.

Our junior volleyball champions were decided at the district finals held on Saturday, Nov. 5. Thanks to Consul School for hosting the boys and to Fox Valley School for hosting the girls. On the girls’ side, Pool A standings saw Fox Valley finish first, Ponteix second and Frontier 3
rd. In Pool B it was Hazlet first, Shaunavon 2nd and Swift Current Comp gr 9’s 3rd. The semi finals saw Ponteix defeat Hazlet 25-22, 25-17 while Fox Valley beat Shaunavon 25-13, 25-8. Congratulations to the Fox Valley Legends and their coaches Jonathon Schneider and Mitchell Dirk for capturing the title! They defeated Ponteix 25-11, 25-9 in the final.

On the boys’ side, Pool A saw Swift Current Comp gr 9’s finish first, Consul 2
nd, Fox Valley was 3rd. In pool B, Wymark emerged on top, Leader was second, and Frontier 3rd. The first semi saw Wymark defeat Consul 25-16, 25-18. The other semi saw Swift Current over Leader 25-8, 25-21. The final saw Swift Current capture the title with a 25-5, 14-25, 25-19 win over Wymark. Congrats to the Colts and their coaches Scott Mayall and Drew Hamilton.

Our senior girls’ teams started out on the provincial playoffs by attending conference play on November 5. In 1A action, Fox Valley, Consul and Eastend were all at Eatonia. Fox Valley emerged on top and captured the conference title by beating Kyle in the final. Vanguard/Hodgeville also hosted 1A conference play. They finished in 4
th spot with a 1-4 record. Fox Valley will be our only 1A team advancing to regional play on Nov. 12.

In 2A action, Frontier and Gull Lake both advanced from their conference play in Bengough. Frontier captured the conference with a record of 4-0 while Gull Lake were second with a 3-1 record. Both teams will also go to regionals on Nov. 12. Meanwhile, Cabri, Leader and Herbert were also playing at 2A conferences in Elrose. Cabri ended up in 2nd spot with a 3-1 record to also advance to regionals. Herbert was 3rd (2-2) while Leader was 4th (1-3).

In 3A action, Ponteix played in Langham. They had a record of 0-3 and will not advance.

4A conference play was held in Maple Creek. Maple Creek had a record of 2-2 to finish 3
rd while Shaunavon had a record of 1-3 to finish 4th. Both teams will not advance.

Our senior boys’ teams will start their conference play on Nov. 11/12:
1A – Fox Valley will host Consul, Frontier and Hazlet on Nov. 12; Vanguard and Hodgeville will travel to Kincaid on Nov. 11.
2A – Herbert will host Ponteix, Leader and Cabri on Nov. 12.
4A – Shaunavon will host Assiniboia, Caronport, and Moose Jaw Cornerstone on Nov. 12.

Our largest school, Swift Current Comp, will also start their volleyball playoffs on Nov. 11/12. They play in the 5A category. The Ardens will be travelling to Moose Jaw on Nov. 11/12 to take part in Regionals while the Colts will be going to Yorkton.
