Our senior
volleyball teams continued in provincial playoffs over the past week.
In girls’ action, Fox Valley attended the 1A girls’ regional
tourney at Glentworth on Nov. 12. The Legends finished first in
their pool with victories over Mankota (25-18, 25-12) and Imperial
(25-14, 25-13). They faced Glentworth in the semi final and advanced
to the final with 25-16, 25-14 wins. This set up the regional final
against the defending provincial champs – Loreburn. The Legends
put a good fight but lost 25-18 and 25-20. With their 2nd
place finish, the girls still qualify for provincials on Nov. 18/19
at Midale. Good luck to the Legends!
Gull Lake hosted
the 2A regional tourney on Nov. 12. 6 teams were in attendance
including local teams such as the host Gull Lake, Frontier and Cabri.
Unfortunately, Gull Lake placed 3rd
in their pool with losses to Milestone and Elrose and did not advance
to the playoffs. Frontier finished first in their pool with
victories over Cabri (23-25, 25-14, 25-13) and Regina Western
Christian (25-10, 25-14). Cabri finished with a record of 1-1 (win
over Western Christian 25-20, 25-12). In the semi finals, Frontier
lost to Elrose 25-23 and 25-21 while Cabri won over Milestone 25-13,
14-25, 25-23. This set up a final between Elrose and Cabri. Cabri
won the regional title (25-15, 20-25, 26-24) and will now advance to
the 2A girls provincials in Hepburn. Good luck to the Cougars!
In 5A action at
Moose Jaw on Nov.11/12, the Swift Current Ardens placed 3rd
in their pool with a record of 1-2. The Ardens lost to Moose Jaw
Peacock (25-17, 21-25, 23-25) and Yorkton (25-11, 15-25, 24-26) and
beat Estevan (25-22, 25-27, 27-25). The girls advanced to the
quarter final and posted a win over Moose Jaw Vanier (25-18, 25-16).
The Ardens then played Weyburn in the semi’s but lost 22-25, 23-25.
The girls had one more shot at qualifying for provincials in the
consolation final but lost to Moose Jaw Central 20-25, 13-25.
Boys playoffs saw Fox
Valley host the 1A boys conference on Nov. 12. The 4 teams – Fox
Valley, Frontier, Consul and Hazlet – competed in a round robin
with the top 2 advancing to regionals on Nov. 19. Congrats to Fox
Valley who were first with a record of 3-0 and Frontier (2-1) who
will now advance to Gravelbourg on Nov. 19! Vanguard and Hodgeville
competed at Kincaid for their 1A conference play on Nov. 10. This
was also a 4 team round robin. Vanguard placed second with a record
of 2-1 and will also advance to regionals in Gravelbourg. Good luck
to all three teams!
In 2A boys’
conference action on Nov. 12, Herbert hosted Ponteix, Leader and
Cabri. Leader (3-0), Cabri (2-1) and Ponteix (1-2) will all advance
to regionals. Cabri will host 2A regionals on Saturday, Nov. 19. 6
teams will be in attendance – Cabri, Leader, Ponteix, Central
Butte, Davidson and LCBI. Action will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
with the final going at 7:00 p.m. Good luck to all our teams!
In 4A action,
Shaunavon hosted conference play on Nov. 12 with 4 teams
participating – Shaunavon, Assiniboia, Caronport and Moose Jaw
Cornerstone. Shaunavon, Caronport and Moose Jaw all had identical
records of 2-1 and will now advance to regionals on Nov. 19.
Shaunavon will host this event as well with 6 teams taking part.
(Shaunavon, Caronport, Moose Jaw Cornerstone, Lanigan, Outlook and
Dalmeny). Action will begin Saturday at 10:00 a..m. with the final
going at 7:00 p.m. Good luck to the Shaunavon Shadows!
Swift Colts
travelled to Yorkton for 5A boys’ regionals on Nov. 11/12. The
Colts finished 3rd
in their pool with a record of 1-2. (Lost to Weyburn 23-25, 18-25
and to Yorkton 21-25, 13-25. Win over Moose Jaw Vanier 25-20,
25-20.) The Colts then played in the quarter finals against Moose
Jaw Central but came up short 25-20, 20-25, 14-25.

be offering two basketball officials’ clinics:

The first clinic is set for Thursday, Nov. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Swift Current Comp lecture theatre. Everyone is welcome and there is no cost to attend.

The second clinic is intended to introduce potential referees to basketball. We are offering a mentorship clinic on Nov. 25 and/or 26. This is open to students, coaches, former players, interested community members. Participants will have a chance to work with seasoned officials reffing actual matches. If you are interested in attending, please register with Todd Anaka (662-5017). There is no cost to participate
