Another busy weekend of basketball as six of our senior teams attended regional playoffs. Congratulations to Herbert boys and their coach Mark Forsyth! They hosted and won the 1A boys title on March 17. There were 4 teams in attendance – Herbert, Southey, Hepburn and Poundmaker Chiefs. Herbert played Southey first winning by a decisive score of 92-34. They then played Poundmaker Chiefs in the final on Saturday. It was an exciting, action packed game as Herbert came from behind in the 2nd half to win 87-73. The Laurels are now off to HOOPLA in Regina on March 23/24. They will Craik in their first game on Friday. Good luck to the Laurels.

In girls’ 1A action both Frontier and Herbert girls had their seasons come to an end. Herbert girls travelled to Melfort and lost two extremely close games. Their first game was against Fillmore losing by a score of 33-29 and the second was lost to Edam 35-31. Frontier was in Foam Lake. They had a successful first game defeating Hepburn 74-47. In the final, they lost to Foam Lake by a score of 63-57.

Shaunavon boys travelled to Moosomin for 3A boys’ regional play. The Shadows had a successful first game beating Kamsack 90-48. They then lost a close final to Moosomin 85-79.

Both the Swift Current Colts and Ardens were on the road for 4A regionals. The Colts travelled to North Battleford while the Ardens were in Humboldt. The Colts lost their first game to Yorkton Sacred Heart 74-62 but won the consolation side by beating Nipawin 64-35. Meanwhile, the Ardens had the same record with losing their first game to Regina O’Neill 52-48 but rebounding to win the consolation side by defeating Weyburn 53-30.
