November 23/24 was an exciting weekend of volleyball as two schools captured medals at the provincial championships.  Fox Valley boys won gold at the 1A category in Medsted while Shaunavon boys captured the bronze at 4A championships in Nipawin.  Congrats to both teams – it was exciting volleyball.  Both sites had live video streaming so fans from all over the province were able to watch their teams play.

Fox Valley capped off a fantastic season by going undefeated and winning the gold medal.  The Legends went a perfect 4-0 in the round robin.  They had victories over Rouleau (25-12, 25-16), Glaslyn (25-4, 25-8), Nakoda Oyade (25-14, 25-17) and Medsted (30-28, 25-15).  They then played the fourth place team from the other pool in the quarter finals – Borden.  They cruised to a 25-14, 25-15 straight set victory.  The semi final was a rematch of last week’s regional championship when the boys came up against Kincaid/College Mathieu.  Once again the Legends got straight set victories 25-16, 25-9.  This set up the final against Annaheim where the Legends won once again in two sets – 25-17, 25-22.  Congrats to the Legends and their coach Darren Lehmann.  Since 2001, the Legends have captured 10 gold medals and 1 silver.  Truly an impressive record!

The Shaunavon Shadows travelled to Nipawin for the 4A boys provincial championships and after a weekend of very impressive play came away with the bronze medal.  The teams were very well matched in Pool A where Shaunavon had a 2-2 record.  They lost to La Loche 2 sets to 1 (18-25, 25-23, 22-25), beat Nipawin (27-25, 25-10), lost to Oxbow 2 sets to 1 (20-25, 25-19, 21-25) and beat Esterhazy (26-24, 25-22).  Interesting to note all 3 medal winners came from Pool A!  After the calculations were made, Shaunavon finished 2nd in their pool.  They played the 3rd place team from Pool B – Yorkton Sacred Heart.  The Shadows won in 2 sets 25-23, 25-18.  This set up a rematch against Nipawin in the semi final.  The Shadows lost 2 very close sets 22-25, 22-25. Nipawin then went on to win the gold medal.  The Shadows then played for bronze against the team they had lost to at regionals the weekend before.  This time the Shadows were not to be denied as they won the match 2-1 (15-25, 25-22, 25-23).  Congrats to the Shadows and their coaches Kyle Hardin and Mark Benesh!
