The Swift Current Ardens soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit at half time, to beat Moose Jaw Central 3-1 winning their 5th consecutive MJHSSA League Championship.  Brooke Vallee, Santana Gowan, and Kelsey Therrien each scored a goal with Kelsey also adding two assists.  Congratulations girls on a well played season. The Ardens then moved on to SHSAA playoffs when they travelled to Moose Jaw on Oct 19 to play in regionals. The Ardens’ first game was against Balgonie on Saturday morning where they walked away with a 9-0 victory. Goal scorers included Schwan (3), Vallee (3), Gowan (1), Chase (1), and Erlandson (1). This put the Ardens in the regional final against Weyburn. The Ardens repeated as regional champions by defeating the Eagles 6-1. The Ardens will now advance to the provincial 3A soccer championships in Regina on Oct. 25/26.

The Swift Current Colts hosted boys’ 3A regional soccer on Oct 18/19. The Colts won their first game against Weyburn by a score of 4-0. Scoring for the Colts was Sadden (2), Haubrich (1) and D. Torres (1). The Colts then played in an exciting final against Balgonie Greenall Griffins. Both teams scored a goal in the first half (Colts’ goal by Haubrich) and it stayed that way for the 2nd half as well as the overtime period. The game went to a shoot out with Balgonie winning 4-3 giving them the victory. Both teams will now advance to provincials in Saskatoon on Oct. 25/26.

Herbert girls also entered soccer this year. In the 1A classification, the girls play 7 vs 7 players. The Laurels travelled to Outlook for their regional on Oct. 19. Herbert walked away with 2 victories. They beat LCBI 2-1 and then defeated Outlook 3-2 to capture the regional title!! The Laurels will now travel to Lake Lenore for 1A girls’ provincials on Oct. 25/26.

The senior volleyball leagues head into their last week of regular play. The final host locations on Oct 22 for the girls are Herbert, Eastend and Frontier. The final host locations on Oct 23 for the boys are Frontier and Swift Current. The top 4 in the girls’ league after week 5 are 1st – Shaunavon. 2nd – Herbert. 3rd – Hazlet. 4th – Frontier. Shaunavon has accumulated enough points to guarantee they will host the league championships on Oct 29. In boys’ play after week 5, 1st place is currently Vanguard. We have a 3 way tie for 2nd – Frontier, Shaunavon and Swift Current Jr Colts. The final host for our boys’ league championship on Oct 30 is still to be determined.

Our junior volleyball teams will also be starting playoffs. The following is a list of the various hosts of our subsection & section playoffs:

Rolling Hills A boys subsection playoff at Herbert. Teams involved: Herbert, Waldeck, O. M. Irwin. One team will advance to the district championship.

Rolling Hills B girls subsection playoff at Ponteix. Teams involved: Ponteix, Wymark, Vanguard, Swift Current Comp gr 9, Hodgeville.. One team will advance to the district championship.

Sat, Nov 2:

Rolling Hills B boys subsection playoff at Wymark. Teams involved: Wymark, Ponteix, Swift Current gr. 9, Vanguard.

Whitemud boys section playoff at Consul. Teams involved: Consul, Eastend, Shaunavon, Frontier, Val Marie. Two teams will advance to the distict championship.

Cypress Hills boys section playoff at Fox Valley. Teams involved: Fox Valley, Burstall, Leader, Success, Cabri. Two teams advance to the district championship. The winner also gets to host the district championship.

Cypress Hills girls section playoff at Cabri. Teams involved: Cabri, Success, Leader, Fox Valley, Maple Creek. Two teams advance to the district championship.

Thurs, Nov. 7:

Whitemud girls section playoff at Shaunavon. Teams involved: Shaunavon, Eastend and Frontier. Two teams advance to the district championship.

Fri, Nov. 8:

Rolling Hills A girls subsection playoff at Waldeck. Teams involved: Waldeck, O.M.Irwin, Gull Lake, Herbert. One team advances to the District Championship and gets the right to host.

In 12 man football action, the Swift Current Colts hosted Estevan on Oct 16 winning by a score 38-14. This put them in the #5 vs #4 playoff game in Moose Jaw on Oct. 19. The Colts took on Central and lost 33-22. Meanwhile in 6 man action, the Gull Lake Lions hosted LCBI on Oct. 19 and won by a score of 85-33. Gull Lake will now advance to the provincial quarter finals on Oct. 26. Our two 9 man football teams will also play in provincial quarter finals on Oct. 26. Maple Creek Redmen will to go Foam Lake while Shaunavon will travel to Clavet.
