Chinook School Division Sports Report

Six games were scheduled for the SWAC senior basketball league. On Jan. 21, Swift Current Jr Ardens and Colts were scheduled to go to Shaunavon. Unfortunately, the Jr Ardens had to forfeit allowing Shaunavon the win on paper 20-0. The Shaunavon Shadows continued their winning streak in the league with their fifth win 91-65 over the Jr Colts. Jordan Voll and Dean Wilkins both had 20 pts to lead the Shadows while the Colts were led by Chandler Davison with 13 and Mitch Braun with 11 pts. The Jr Colts played their second game of the week on Jan. 23 when they cruised to a 110-57 win over the Frontier Raiders. The Jr Ardens hosted Gull Lake Lady Lions on the 23^rd with the visiting team winning a close match by the score of 44-40. Erika Vallee was the Lions’ top scorer with 14 pts while Karin Roen added 12. Replying for the Jr Ardens was Kyla Bolton with 12 pts. Maple Creek boys and girls travelled to Herbert on the 21^st. The Herbert girls won 60-20. The Laurels were led by Rachel Selke with 17 and Alishia Beach with 14. Brittany Kilthan had 8 in the losing cause for Maple Creek. The boys’ game saw the hometown Laurels come away with an 88-77 victory. Frank Meyers added 36 pts to the winning cause while Kurt Robertson added 19. Maple Creek’s Kayler Barkman had 28 pt while Graham Gordon had 24 pts. There are no league games scheduled for the week of Jan. 27-31 due to high school exams. Our senior curling teams will begin playoffs on Jan. 31/Feb 1. There will be two playoff locations – Maple Creek and Cadillac (Ponteix hosting). Games will Maple Creek will take place on Saturday, Feb 1 at 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Teams taking part include – Maple Creek, Fox Valley, Hazlet, Cabri and Shaunavon. Games at Cadillac will take place both Friday Jan 31 (games at 1:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m.) and Saturday, Feb. 1 (games at 10:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.). Teams participating include Ponteix, Swift Current Comp, Hodgeville, Herbert, Gull Lake and Val Marie. The winners will advance to the SWAC district championships being held in Gull Lake on Feb. 7/8. Our junior curling playoffs will start with sectionals on Feb. 7/8. There will be 3 locations – Burstall, Hodgeville and Shaunavon.
