Our senior basketball teams have started the SWAC league playoffs. On the boys’ side, it was #1 Shaunavon Shadows defeating #4 Maple Creek Rebels by a score of 83-35 on Feb. 15. Matt Benesh had 29 pts to lead the Shadows with Jesse Voll adding an additional 21 pts. Top scorer for Maple Creek was Markus Beveridge with 9 pts. In the other semi on Feb. 13, it was #2 Swift Current Jr. Colts over #3 Herbert Laurels 64-53. The Jr. Colts were led by Reid Fritzke and Matt Bissonnette both with 13 pts. Phil Braun had 14 and Leighton Dueck had 13 for the Laurels. This sets up a re-match of last year’s final with Shaunavon hosting the Jr. Colts in the final. This will be held sometime after the February school break.

On the senior girls’ side, on Feb. 14 #3 Shaunavon Silhouettes upset the #2 Herbert Laurels by a 65-61 score. Shaunavon had a big game from Lacey Pritchard who had 26 pts. Becca Hansen added another 15. On the Laurels’ side, Syd Seib had 18 pts and Miranda Haughian added 13 pts. On Feb. 15, the #1 Frontier Raiders hosted the #4 Swift Current Jr Ardens. The Raiders persevered to win 63-56. Frontier high scorer was Samantha Glenn with 10 pts. The Jr. Ardens had Jenna Krahn with 21 pts. The final will see Frontier host Shaunavon. This game will also take place after the break.

Most of our junior semi finals have occurred as well. On Feb. 15, the #1 Gull Lake girls hosted #4 Herbert. The young lady Lions triumphed with 44-32 win. In the other semi, #2 Shaunavon hosted #3 Swift Current Comp gr. 9’s on Feb. 16. The Swift Current team got the road victory by a 60-51 score. The final will now see Gull Lake host Swift Current.

In the boys’ semi on Feb. 16, #3 Herbert beat #2 Waldeck by a score of 65-61. The other boys’ semi features #4 Shaunavon @ #1 Swift Current. This won’t be played until Feb. 29.
