The Swift Current Broncos announced a three year contract extension of Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb yesterday afternoon.

Liam Choo-Foo, Swift Current Broncos Board of Directors Chairman says their decision to extend the contract was in the best interest of the franchise.

"It's always been important to the board not to have our head person going into the final year of a contract, so our decision making process was fairly early on. We knew we wanted to extend Mark it was just a matter of getting the logistics taken care of over the summer. We really believe that the stability, the direction and the leadership he has brought to the organization over the past five years bodes well for us as we move into the future. We are really looking forward to reaping the benefits of all the hard work that has been put into the renewal process," said Choo-Foo.

The three-year deal includes the coming season and will take Lamb through the 2016-17 season and he will head into this season as the coach with the longest current consecutive tenure with one WHL team.

Choo-Foo says there were many reasons they chose to extend the contract.

"His work ethic and the clarity of vision he has been able to bring to the organization, he came to us an on-ice plan that he hasn't strayed from and he has worked with the board and the business staff on putting together a business plan that is starting to show the benefits. Being with us right from the start on both of those initiatives continues to move us in a direction that we are all happy with going," said Choo-Foo.

He says the boards' expectations for the future go along with their mission statement and definitely included Lamb.

"We want to be a premier franchise within the WHL and we want to ensure that we are sustainable over the long term. When you put that into very practical perspective, being a premiere franchise means that you do have some success on the ice and what we are seeing from the shifts we have made in how we scout, from the type of team we put on the ice and what our results have been we are headed in the right direction that way and likewise on the business side we find we are starting to move toward a more stable sustainable structure there as well," said Choo-Foo.

Lamb was entering the last year of his previous three-year deal. That year has been expunged in favor of this new contract.
