NHL Playoffs

One of the biggest goals of Braydon Coburn's NHL career helped lift his team to the next round of the playoffs.

The Shaunavon product broke a scoreless tie in the third period as the Tampa Bay Lightning blanked Detroit 2-0 Wednesday night to eliminate the Red Wings from the playoffs in seven games.

It was Coburn's third goal in 79 NHL playoff games and his first as a member of the Lightning, who picked him up in a trade with Philadelphia near the NHL's trading deadline in March.

The Bolts will now face former Swift Current Bronco Dale Weise and the Montreal Canadiens in round two, with the series starting Friday night at the Bell Centre.

The second round of the NHL Playoffs begins tonight with two games. The Washington Capitals head to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers (5:30pm, CBC), while the Calgary Flames visit the Anaheim Ducks later on (8:00pm, Sportsnet).
