The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Colts football season came to an end with a 55-38 loss to Central Collegiate in the league quarterfinal Saturday at Colts Field.

"We just made too many big mistakes, we didn't give up any long touchdown drives, but it seems like every time we did something good, we followed it up with something bad that gave them life," said Colts Coach Derek Murdoch. "We battled and we made it interesting at the end. It's kind of fun to get after those short kicks, but in the end, their top guys made big plays."

Quarterback Dalton Christiansen was 5-for-18 passing for 51 yards with the Colts getting most of their offense on the ground. Jackson Goodfellow ran for 110 yards and three touchdowns, and Zac Nickel added two majors and 90 rushing yards. Slotback Marcus Kouri ran for 87 yards, and also connected on with Marcus Mayall on a 42-yard pass in the second half that led to a touchdown.

The Colts earned the right to host the playoff game after finishing third in the league standings with a 3-and-3 record. Murdoch said he's proud of what the team had accomplished despite the heartbreaking finish to the season.

"This has been a special year in terms of hosting a playoff game and building a positive culture, and people are seeing our football team as something they want to be a part of," he added.

Other high school sports on the weekend had the Ardens soccer team winning a fifth-straight 3A Girls Regional Championship with a 10-0 win over Balgonie in the semi-final on Saturday, and an 8-1 victory over host Weyburn in the final. The Ardens will head to Saskatoon for the 3A Girls Provincial Championship Friday and Saturday.

The Colts soccer team had a rough time at their provincial tournament in North Battleford, losing their first match 2-1 to Prince Albert Carlton, and failing to qualify for provincials.
