From the first team meeting in June, coaches Chris Garner, Duane Regier, and Keith Adolph knew the potential for the SCCHS Colts Soccer team was there.

"We were thinking that this year was going to be a rebuild season after losing many dominant players last year.  Fortunately in Swift Current the talent runs deep. We asked the players at the first meeting what the goal for the season was.  Their answer was win."

Despite having the positive attitude and talent for success, the Colts faced much competition throughout the season.

There was never a situation where the Colts were able to walk over the other teams.  In fact, in all games it was a constant battle for the upper hand.  The coaches pointed to games played this year: "At our home tournament we were up 3-0 against Weyburn only to have them nearly tie the game. P.A. had a last minute goal to win 2-1. In Yorkton we fought to the bitter end against Yorkton Regional for a 2-1 victory.  Also, against Sacred Heart we found our team was down 4-0 by the end of the first.  If you look at that game though, the second half was a 2-2 game.  We played our hearts out in the second half against last years 2A Provincial Champions.  We were very proud of the effort from the team and know that if we play to our potential we can be a spoiler at provincials."

Going into provincials, they will continue to play as the underdog, a concept they seem used to.  The coaches claim: "We are okay with being underdogs.  We know that if we are able to play a consistent hour and half of soccer we can cause a major ripple and come away upsetting some dominant teams. We know the boys can be successful in Saskatoon."

The coaches attribute the teams success to the leadership on the team.  In the beginning of the year it was clear that a few players emerged as leaders.  However, by the time the Regional Finals was played, each player had stepped up and contributed in their own way.  According to the coaches "the players understand that it is a team effort.  It is not about individual accolades.  Each player holds the other accountable for what is done on the field.  We do not have just two captains; we have eleven captains on the field and 7 on the bench.  It is amazing how this team has come together."

The SCCHS Regional Champion Colts will be in action in Saskatoon Friday morning hoping to continue a dominant performance to cap off an unbelievable season.
