The Swift Current Comp Senior Colts basketball team got their SCCHS-hosted invitational tournament started on a strong note.

Facing a fellow team from the southwest, the Shaunavon Shadows, Swift Current won 76-65.

for Shaunavon with five points through the first 10 minutes.

Swift Current's offensive pace wasn't altered in the second quarter, carrying a 42-29 lead into half time.

Another nine points in the second quarter for Friesen gave him 17 at the half, while five more from Fritzke brought him up to an even 10 to lead the way offensively.

The 18-point second quarter for Shaunavon was thanks in large part to Nixen Voll who, after being held off the board in the first quarter, brought his point total to 12 before halftime.

Continuing the onslaught on the offensive end, the Colts put up their third-straight 21-point frame to lead 63-41, backed by a tight defensive effort.

Scott added five more for Swift in the third, while once again Friesen had a solid quarter putting up six. Smith scored half of Shaunavon's third-quarter points with a trey, a two, and a free throw - Voll added five himself.

The minutes were distributed evenly across the fourth quarter with no Colts player scoring more than once - Nolan Klein's three-pointer was the high total for Swift to close out the game, as they won 76-65.

Voll's 13 fourth-quarter points gave him a game-high 30 for Shaunavon in the loss, while Friesen's 25 led the way for Swift in the win.

The Colts now await the winner of a game between the Moose Jaw Vanier Vikings and Estevan Elecs to see who their opponent will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. The Shadows meet the loser of tonight's game before that at 9 a.m.
