A call of "huddle up" by head coach Derek Murdoch kicked off the Swift Current Comp Colts spring camp, and 2018 season yesterday evening at Colts Field.

"We definitely did lose some big players, 19 is a lot of guys to replace," Murdoch said, although not phased by the familiar scenario the team finds themselves in. "The year before was very similar. We adjusted pretty well last year and probably exceeded some expectations."

With kick-off to the 2018 regular season still over three months away, the main focus at spring camp will be shaking the metaphorical rust off, as well as welcoming some new faces.

"Basically the big thing is introducing some news guys to the fold," Murdoch said. "Some of them are guys that are graduating from the Bantam Steelers program to us, and obviously a few new guys that have come out of the wood work that want to try things out. It's just a lot of introduction to what Colts football is like, what a practice looks like, and just how we want to do things."

The camp will also provide the coaching staff the initial opportunity to see what current veteran players step up in their new leadership role, as well as increase their workload.

"We've got guys that were with us last year that'll step up, and we're pretty excited about giving some of those guys some extra touches and some extra responsibility," the Colts head coach noted.

The other camp dates are spread out over May 21st, May 23rd, May 28th, and May 30th.
