NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs


Shane Doan scored twice and Mike Smith made 36 saves for his third shutout of the playoffs as the Phoenix Coyotes blanked Los Angeles 2-0 in game four of the NHL's Western Conference Final Sunday.

The Coyotes avoided a four-game sweep by the Kings, as they try to become only the 4th team in NHL history to rally from an 0-3 deficit to take a series.

Game five is tomorrow night in the desert.

The Eastern Conference Final resumes tonight with the New Jersey Devils hosting the Rangers (6:00pm, CBC), with New York up 2-1 in that series. The Rangers will be without forward Brandon Prust  for tonight's after he was suspended one game for his elbow to the head of Devils defenceman Anton Volchenkov in game 2 on Saturday.

The Shawinigan Cataractes delighted the home fans by dumping the OHL Champion London Knights 6-2 at the MasterCard Memorial Cup Sunday. Both teams are now 1-1 in the round-robin tournament. The WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings take on the defending national champion Saint John Sea Dogs in today's game (5:00pm, Sportsnet West). The Oil Kings beat Shawinigan in their opening game, while Saint John lost to London on Saturday.

Russia captured the gold medal at the World Hockey Championships with a 6-2 victory over Slovakia on Sunday. The Czech Republic claimed bronze with a 3-2 win over Finland.
