It was a changing of the guard weekend in the WHL East Division.

The first, second and third place teams from last season were all swept in home-and-home games by the fourth, fifth and sixth place teams. It was perhaps a signal that those teams are looking to push their way to the top in 2018-19.

The result was no different for the defending WHL champion Swift Current Broncos. With a completely re-made roster the Broncos fell 2-1 at home on Friday and 8-0 in Saskatoon on Saturday.

Highly touted NHL draft prospect Kirby Dach led the way for the Blades with a hat trick and two assists in Saturday's game.

The Blades put the game out of reach early scoring five times in the first period and added to the lead throughout the rest of the game.

Their power play was a big difference maker on the night going 4 for 6 in putting the game out of reach.

Swift Current came close on a couple of occasions as Andrew Fyten hit the post on a shorthanded chance and Joona Kiviniemi ripped a shot off the post in the third period. That's as close as the Broncos would come as Nolan Maeir made 17 saves for the shutout.

Joel Hofer had a strong game in the 2-1 loss on Friday, but allowed 8 goals on 39 shots the next night.

Brandon also swept a home-and-home with Moose Jaw, while Prince Albert took two games from Regina.

Swift Current was missing defencemen Artyom Minulin and Roope Pynnonen on the weekend. They scratched overage forward Tanner Nagel on Saturday and Fyten got into the lineup as they are still carrying four healthy overage players and only three can dress.

The Broncos are now off until Friday when they visit Edmonton. Their next home game is October 5th against the Pats.
